Boustead Plantations Berhad (BPB) today created another significant milestone in its journey towards becoming a sustainable technology-based plantation company by signing a Document of Understanding (DOU) with Cargill Palm Products Sdn Bhd (Cargill) for the long-term supply of higher quality standard and sustainable Crude Palm Oil (CPO).

The DOU was signed between BPB CEO Zainal Abidin Shariff and Cargill Commercial Director Daniel Ong in a ceremony held at Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur.

Witnessing the signing ceremony were BPB Director Fahmy Ismail and Cargill Country Director Chandramohan Nair. Also present was BPB Director Ahmad Shahredzuan Mohd Shariff.

Approximately 20 guests attended the signing ceremony which include the top management of both BPB and Cargill.

The DOU strengthens both BPB and Cargill’s long-standing commitment to achieve a high sustainable palm oil standard to meet customer demand. BPB is expected to produce and sell higher quality standard and sustainable CPO to Cargill.

Zainal Abidin in his officiating speech said that as a company that strictly adheres to the principles of Environmental, Social and Governance, we believe that it is within our responsibility to ensure that our product – from the collection of FFB all the way to the end of the supply chain – are guaranteed safe, without posing risk or harm to the environment and the people.

“Sustainability should not be reduced to become merely a slogan. Instead, environmental-conscious companies need to evaluate the risk of their operation and implement progressive mitigation actions to reduce and possibly eliminate such risks. This is the stand that we take here in Boustead Plantations Berhad.” he said.

Zainal Abidin then officiated the signing ceremony with the following poetry.
