BPB introduces Batik Thursdays to promote national heritage
20 January 2022BPB engages with DreamEDGE on technology exploration for plantations
21 January 2022In our estate in Sabah, a pristine river flows calmly through the land, providing sustenance and refuge to species that call it their home.
Sungai Bilong, a natural treasure trove that runs along our G&G Estate in Lahad Datu, is an area with a very high biodiversity occurrence. Various animals and plants, including those designated as totally protected species under state enactment, have been documented in the area.
Being a High Conservation Value (HCV) area, Sungai Bilong was gazetted as a riparian river in our effort to conserve and protect the natural ecosystem in the area. In addition to that, we have also designated a total of 9.4 hectare of land as river buffer belts.
Sungai Bilong is a foraging area for Pygmy Elephants, a species currently categorised as endangered in the IUCN Redlist. A ‘visit’ by elephant herd in and around our estate is a pretty common sight for our workers there.
As land operators, we carry a huge responsibility to preserve HCVs and biodiversity assets occurring in our areas to ensure that these treasures can be enjoyed by our future generations. Every day, we find new ways and methods to better coexist with nature.
We remain committed to maintain our treasure trove of biodiversity as we adhere to the principles of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in our operations.
